Viewer reviews from iTunes

We see you Hulu (3/5)
While I love Hulu, I’m on to you and your attempts to increase ad revenue. Every third episode the video fails to load AFTER the ad has played just fine. So I have to exit the program, restart it, and sure enough watch another ad. It happens so consistently that it’s clear you’re not even hiding your attempts to boost your ad quota at the viewer’s expense. You have us over a barrel because you have our shows, but don’t think we don’t know about your shenanigans. We see you Hulu, we see you. - Cwcudney

Needs work (1/5)
Always crashing. Coming up with error messages. My WiFi connection is great so this app is pretty frustrating. Constantly error messages when your in the middle of watching something then good luck getting it to play again. Any suggestions for a better live tv app would be greatly appreciated. I need to switch asap!. - kanopka

One problem (4/5)
Just fix the upload process PLEASE... It always freezes... other then that it’s good - Phone Game Geek

2 star (2/5)
Hulu keeps forget where i left off and started my show a few episodes behind. Lags and kicks me out!😤😫 - Andy-420

Things are not available (1/5)
Some things that I want to watch are unavailable - 1 star is worth it

Omgggg... Ads (2/5)
Why sooooooo many ads?!?... it’s ridiculous - Tashh1

App troubles (1/5)
I enjoy the shows this service provides but the app quality is awful. I’m continually dealing with error codes and crashes. The app is very buggy. I can’t get a show started without it giving an error code not loading or crashing. I’m paying for a service I can’t use. You should be paying me for for this aggravation!! - Pookie471

Fix this (2/5)
Don’t just stop half way through a series and not put any more on it is very annoying and I hate that you do it one of the shows I am talking about is the show forged in fire you put all the shows up to season 4 then just stoped adding more episodes so fix it now. - forged in steel

Good but not great (1/5)
I love the shows but there is a constant connection problem when using the app. I had this problem in the past so I left and used other forms of entertainment. I thought by now this connection problem would be addressed and fixed so I came back because the shows are amazing up to date but sadly it’s still the same. I’m using an new apple phone, I know it’s not the phone I have. Please fix or you will lose my business - Niko478

Connection & Commercials (3/5)
I love Hulu, but the app is... VERY frustrating to connect to a chromecast. I will start a show and put my phone down (the phone is the “remote”) and then go to change it once the show is over, but I have to disconnect and reconnect over and over. I don’t have this issue with other streaming services. Also, not app related, but I’m frustrated by the fact that their commercials are suddenly twice as loud as the shows I’m watching. That’s a sure way to get me to MUTE the commercials entirely and not pay attention to them at all. 👎🏻 - ghxstbat

Won’t load anything (1/5)
I have perfect reception on my phone and I can load movies and tv show from the Netflix app but it won’t load anything from the Hulu app. I deleted the app and reinstalled it and it worked for a bit but then it started doing it again. - CaptainEggWhite

Ready to cancel my subscription. (1/5)
I can’t watch anything, once in a great while the app will allow me to watch an episode, but the majority of the time I have to keep clicking an episode to play it. The adds work juuuust fine, but the episodes never load. This is your problem Hulu, fix it or go the way of MySpace. - Prsnlljebus

Crashing? (2/5)
Is this what ppl mean by crashing? Lately everything I pull up tells me Hulu is having difficulty with that episode . So I know better than to stay on that program even if I do pic a diff episode. Sometimes it used to work to change shows. Not any more! Nope! What’s the point? It won’t play. Anything - Michigan apple

Irritated with Hulu (3/5)
Love using this app but very irritated that shows keep getting cancelled. I’d like to finish one freaking show all the way through before Hulu cancels it. - desi1921

Incredibly Frustrating Gestures & Ad Rewatches (1/5)
There are so many incredibly annoying gestures, which I presume are meant to be helpful, but end up forcing me to rewatch more ads. It could be by design, but it’s also made me consider stopping my subscription to Hulu. First is the “swipe down to exit your current video” gesture. This is really unnecessary. There is already a very easy to access close button, and we do not need a speedy method of exiting out of shows and movies. It does not save us time, especially when you factor in accidental exits and the ~50/50 chance that we’ll need to watch a 30 second ad before we’re allowed back to where we just were. Second is the “hold down and swipe on the screen to fast forward or rewind” gesture. Especially on an iPad, touching or holding the screen can be very common, and our videos shouldn’t be continually interrupted by unintentional touches. You have the skip back buttons and those do the trick. If you feel those aren’t enough, Hulu could employ a similar gesture to YouTube. The “double tap to skip back” or some other method which isn’t usually unintentionally done. My third complaint is more so directed at Hulu’s ad management system. The platform doesn’t seem to remember if you’ve just sat through 90 seconds of ads; if you rewind just a little too far and cross the ad dot marker again, then you’ll sit through 90 seconds of ads all over again. Again, this is probably by design, because I’ve used far less sophisticated video management systems than Hulu which do have a way of remembering which ad zones you’ve already watched. Can you improve your platform and focus on user satisfaction above all else? User frustration does not lead to loyal subscribers, especially in an industry with so much growing competition. - achacko714

ONE PROBLEM (4/5)
the ONE PROBLEM i see w hulu is that there is no “Skip Intro” button. With this addition, there would be no issues w hulu. - Olivia E Wilson

Bad app (2/5)
Can’t watch a full episode of anything. App keeps crashing with error connection message - brebankz

OMG! I have to start over?!?! STILL?!?! (1/5)
Why do I have to start each episode from the beginning every time I get some error message that tells me to restart either my device or my modem?? There is nothing wrong with either!! Geez...can your developers not figure out how to fix this? NETFIX does not have this issue... I’ve watched the same ad over and over and only seen the show I want to watch for about 15 seconds!! If I just wanted to watch ads, I would watch regular, boring TV. I get you have to have ads to support the system, but seriously?! Your developers missed the mark somewhere 😡 **UPDATE** YOU JUST LOST A STAR HULU!! So I upgraded to the NO AD version thinking this would allow me to watch more of the shows I want to see (trying to beat the restart & Ad issue, right?...NO!!) STILL getting that stupid error message that tells me to power down MY device AND modem and then start all over!! HOLY COW!!! 😡😡 Is someone at HULU going to prorate the $$ I’ve spent versus the amount of time I’ve spent just TRYING to watch a show? OR REFUND the money I’m spending WASTING MY TIME?!?! I could have gotten in my truck, driven to a REDBOX, rented a couple of movies, driven home and STILL saved money...AND TIME!! I’ve gotten ZERO response from HULU on this issue and from reading other reviews, I’m not the only UPSET, FRUSTRATED CUSTOMER! HULU - take some of the money you’re getting and hire someone that can FIX THIS ISSUE!!! Seriously...how hard can it be?!?! UPDATE YOUR SERVICE ALREADY OR I’M GOING TO BE A FORMER HULU FAN!! - ndjohnston

Good but... (3/5)
I love the variety of shows on here but there are a few things that I have a problem with The ads I am paying to watch tv and movies on this network and you are still making me watch ads?? I don’t understand what the advertising is all about I don’t get that on YouTube TV, Netflix, or Amazon, but Hulu continues to force ads and it drives me crazy. If I find that Hulu has a show that another network has, I’ll switch to the other one just to avoid the several ads I have to watch for something that I bought and am paying for Recently watched When I go back to watch a show that I recently watched, it is never shown in the correct order. I would prefer it to be in the order of most recently watched to least recent but it appears to be in the order that Hulu prefers, not the user. All I want to do is go back and start back where I left off but then I have to slide all the way through to the bottom of my recently watched tab just to watch again. Sometimes it won’t even show up there, so I have to go back and search for the show. This is easier to do on the phone (but still inconvenient) but on a TV searching for a show is just time consuming. This is bigger deal than it would seem, especially since Hulu’s competitors seem to have no issue with these types of things. Swiping out of a show When I’m watching something on my phone, accidentally swiping the show away is so frustrating. Swiping down allows you to leave the video for those of you who don’t know. And while it seems easy and quick, I’d prefer to just click the X button or possibly a back arrow in the corner when I tap the screen to pause/rewind/fast forward/etc.. Accidentally swiping out happens to me a lot and it’s frustrating because I have to wait for it to load the content again and so it isn’t as easy and nice as you’d think it is. Fast forwarding I also don’t like how you can either rewind 10 seconds, or fast forward 30. It just seems like it wasn’t completely thought through. It just seems like it would make more sense if it was 10 seconds both ways. This way, if I accidentally rewound 20 seconds, I can correct it back to 10. I understand that 30 seconds allows you to move through the show quicker to catch up to a part, but that’s what the sliding part is for at the bottom of the screen. It feels like this wasn’t totally thought through properly. While I love using Hulu and they offer lots of shows that it’s competitors do not, they seem to lack easiness and logic when it comes to user experience. I feel that if these issues were looked over and fixed, then I would enjoy using Hulu more and would pick it over other things like Netflix, YouTube TV, or Amazon. - Hannah_122_

Crashes and hanging sessions (2/5)
I don’t typically write in, but I’m driven to distraction with the server connection issues. I faithfully reset my modem and router and devices, cleared history etc etc and I can’t get through an episode without a crash part way through. I do not know if it is server issues or issues with the internet carrier, but I pay a premium for this service — however not much longer without resolution. Thank you for attention to this issue. - Abuse of Like

FIX YOUR APP!!!!!!!!! (1/5)
I can’t get through 10 minutes of anything without it crashing and saying it’s on my end. Funny that this is the only app not working though... - frustrated859

😭😭😭 (1/5)
Fix!!!!!!!!!! - LaLaLeticia

Hulu no ad (2/5)
Hulu has a somewhat good selection of things to watch but very limited and their prices are ridiculous. Right now they’re charging me $60 a month (I’m paying for the live tv + no ad). Someone tell me why I’m still getting ads?! I looked it up and Hulu can only cover no ad on some movies and episodes. Which is stupid cuz your charging me like $7 a month for no ads. If you just get regular Hulu your limited on the stuff you can watch and it’s not very good selection. Take my advice and don’t get Hulu it’s a waste of your money. All they do is take your money and not give you what your paying for. Another thing this review is stupid. There telling me to be honest and write what I think but won’t let me post it cuz I have to put a nickname next to my review and once I do, all it says is this nickname is taken, try again. - khchkckcit

Hulu (3/5)
I’m so sick have to watch 90 second commercials for every 6 mins of the show your watching. - chgvbg

Crashes (1/5)
I’ve had more crashes in 2 weeks with Hulu than I have in 10 years with Netflix. This is no exaggeration. It’s horrendous. - Marc.brown

Wt... (1/5)
Not sure if it was the update or what, but the constant “errors” and “connection problems” are total bs. Not really sure what I’m paying for at this point. Love the shows, but doesn’t matter much when I can’t watch more than 30 seconds or so at a time, if anything at all. - Khdsjskb

Bad. Bad. Bad. (1/5)
This UI is bad and not user friendly. I hate it! Make it more like your competitors. - JudyJetsonHooka

Constant errors (1/5)
The iPhone app for this service is constantly giving me an error message "P-DEV320" every other episode I watch. It doesn't matter how many times I close the app out completely or how many times I've restarted my phone (5 in the last hour and a half) it keeps happening. Really disappointing for how much I'm spending for the service. Might be better off sticking with Netflix and Amazon prime. So frustrating. - MuSiC LuVeRz 1123

Unable to binge (1/5)
I am unable to binge watch shows. After about the third episode it says error connection! Please fix!!!!!!!!!!! - Brianaj1990

False Errors!!!!! (1/5)
FIX YOUR APP! I cannot stress this enough every time I get on, it gives me this error with playing my selection which is false my connection is always good and even if it does let you play it’s only good for about 2-3 episodes before it happens again and reloading the app doesn’t help because it occurs again. I’ve been very tolerant for weeks now this is really aggravating me and I’m not the only one who has this problem - Jamaltoolive

Loud commercials! (1/5)
Why are the commercials so loud? I thought that was a cable tv move. The commercials are so loud it scares my kids. - Coreabstraction

Too many ads (1/5)
So many ads. Netflix or Amazon doesn't show ads, let alone 10 ads ninety seconds long per episode. Not renewing after this month - Nensndakjcnws

Fine quality, but AWFUL service (2/5)
Shows crash regularly with a “connection error on your part,” even though connection is fine. Then one has to restart phone and launch app again and even then the app still might not work. SO FRUSTRATING. - mfernandagg

I really like hulu... (1/5)
I really like hulu but it’s been giving me a hard time lately. I’m unable to watch certain shows, it says there’s no internet connection when my wifi is perfectly fine. I’ve uninstalled the app, restarted my phone and everything. I would love if they’d fix the app. - Keishie

Doesn’t keep up (3/5)
It doesn’t keep up when new seasons when they come out on people’s favorite shows like my friends, family and mine - Dddddddd.99999

No more adds (5/5)
I like Hulu it’s just one thing is the adds can you guys please get rid of them please if there are adds on Hulu how can I be able to watch all of my favorite shows with adds just makes me very sick just seeing adds from your shows to watch please get rid of them please I’m sorry for kind being mean it’s making me upset - Theflashvloggamerxx

DCI Banks and Whitechapel (5/5)
Excellent shows and characters - great storyline. Love it🌹 - jermiez

Hulu iPhone 6 Plus (1/5)
Just updated the software 6/13/19. The phone locks up and will not work. Sticks on the home screen with a message about new search features. - ). not happy

Connection error!?! (3/5)
Getting tired of paying for my subscription but not being able to watch it on my iPhone!! Please fix or I will be cancelling!! - They're all taken....

pls update attack on titan (5/5)
Pls update attack on titan i want sub! Tell me when your gonna add (sub) this app is very good also - -maybeastro

I like it but there are issues (3/5)
I have a really annoying issue besides the fact that after a few episodes of tv shows it does say there’s a connection issue on my side. Which is not true. And I see there are others with the same issue. But my biggest issue is that I keep getting subtitles on every movie and tv show I watch. Even though I Tuen subtitles off the still come up and I have to keep shutting them off. This is super annoying! When are you going to fix these issues? On the bright side I do like the selection of movies and shows you have. - Wackado-be

What is going on?! (1/5)
I’ve been trying and trying to get an answer out of someone, literally anyone, about what the heck is going on with my “connection error”. First off, I don’t frickin have one. I have contacted both my internet provider and my cellular provider. Both say my connection (download speed and latency speed ) is completely fine. Well within the range of streaming high quality videos. But Hulu doesn’t seem to work on any front for me. It will only let me watch some shows, other shows it’s will buffer and tell me I have an issue with connection. No one from Hulu has given me an answer, they’ve just told me that other people are experiencing it as well and that was it. They never once said if anything was being done about it. Or if I can do something else to help myself. I NEED HELP. I don’t want to cancel my subscription but if I can’t use the service provided, why would I keep it? - 13lzamar

If you can use it it’s nice (2/5)
The past week, NONSTOP, everytime I am in the middle of watching a show Hulu has a time out error and it says the video I’m trying to watch cannot be loaded. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I’ve tried updating my phone, uninstalling and reinstalling Hulu, connecting to WiFi, everything. Still get the error. Almost pointless for me to use. Netflix gives me zero problems. - ali315118

Commercials keep replaying (1/5)
Ads keep starting over once they end and I have to keep reopening the app just to watch the shows. - Simba mate

Are you serious ??? 🤬 (1/5)
5 to 6 commercial breaks every 5 minutes in a 30 minute animated film. Subscription cancelled. Consumerism garbage. Then the ignorant masses wonder why useless companies that offer no solutions to our real problems thrive, millions in profits and the systems we need to survive, health care, justice etc struggle to even function. - Testwick

Potato (5/5)
Potato potato potato potato - TheDerpyNerdACUZAR

When do new episodes come out? (4/5)
I find it very difficult to know when new episodes of my shows come out. There seems to be no indication of when these episodes would be available. It would certainly enhance my experience using the app. - Davie Robbie

Not supported over HDMI, r u serious? (1/5)
This is crap, I paid for the expensive Apple hdmi adapter, and can’t use it to play Hulu on my TV with it. So done.... - The Last Nicky

Improvable (2/5)
Could be better if it would continue to play in the background when I switch apps Also very annoying that when you want to change your subscription it says you have to go through your browser, and then when you try to change it in the browser it says you have to call a different number 🙄 Could be very simple. Needs more variety. - SixhavslfbkcjsvalhskBvl

I like it but.. (4/5)
Hulu is a great app but I just feel like it has too many ads.I watch a lot of anime Movies and episodes. there’s just too many ads on there It makes watching Hulu kind of boring and I just think that if they were less ads then I would enjoy it more and maybe some other people who like watching anime like me will enjoy it more too. - Reindeerlover4
